Fire Cider

Fire Cider - Master Tonic...

Different names, but the recipes are very similar.

The recipe I use is derived from Rosemary Gladstar (freefirecider.com). You can find her recipe there. George is allergic to onions and I don't like horseradish, so our recipe is a combination of Fire Cider & Master Tonic. In all the years I've been making it I've never measured (each batch tasted different, but still good) until this year. I weighed what I would normally put into it and put those measurements in my recipe below. I think it came out quite well!

I'm sure you've heard how good Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is to your health and has proven benefits based on science. 6 of those benefits include:
1. High in Acetic Acid, with potent biological effects
2. Can kill many types of harmful bacteria.
3. Lowers blood sugar levels & fights diabetes.
4. Helps you lose weight & reduces belly fat.
5. Lowers cholesterol & improves heart health.
6. May have protective effects against cancer.

Then when you add the positive benefits of the Garlic, Ginger, Turmeric, hot peppers and so forth, you get this amazing tonic that can aid in almost any ailment!

However, I must divulge that as with all good things, Apple Cider Vinegar isn't for everyone or every situation.
  • Some people find that ACV contributes to rather than improves their indigestion. Heartburn & indigestion are the most common side effects from using ACV. It can also irritate stomach ulcers & is not recommended for people with stomach ulcers.
  • While ACV can be helpful for people suffering from yeast overgrowth, including vaginal infections caused by yeast, it is important to pay attention to your symptoms. If they appear to get worse after taking ACV, discontinue use.
  • When using ACV, it is generally recommended to dilute it in water or juice; undiluted it can erode dental enamel and will sometimes turn teeth yellow.

We take 1 TBSP a day (diluted in a couple oz of water) for general immune health.
When getting sick or you know you'll be around sick people, take teaspoons throughout the day or as often as every hour until symptoms dissipate. You can't overdose on Fire Cider, the worse that can happen is developing halitosis from the garlic!

It should be spicy/sweet with a bit of tang!
Cheers to good health!

Ingredients - Organic:

1 lb Sliced Jalapenos
4.30 oz Chopped/Minced Garlic (About 2 Med Bulbs) *1
6.8 oz Chopped/Minced Ginger (Approx. 4x4 inch root) *2
1.2 oz Chopped/Minced Turmeric (About 2 heaping Tablespoons) *3
4 Tablespoons Whole/Ground Peppercorns
2-3 Teaspoons Cayenne Pepper
(3) 32 oz bottles Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with the 'Mother' *4
1/4-1/2 Cup Honey or to taste

Click on the pictures to the left for a detailed view of ingredients and how I process them.

Instructions:

1.) Add all your ingredients to a gallon size jar. An old pickle jar works perfectly for this job.
2.) Top with Apple Cider Vinegar. Remember - keep your ACV jars to keep the finished product in.
3.) Cover with wax paper or parchment paper and replace the lid.
4.) Let sit on your counter, away from direct sunlight, for 4-8 weeks. I usually let it sit for 1 month.
5.) Shake daily to help with maceration.
6.) After about a month (or your chosen week) Strain the liquid through several layers of cheese cloth or muslin fabric, into another gallon container. You'll want to squeeze all the liquid out of the leftover bits (Wear gloves!).
Before you divide into your ACV jars, add about 1/4-1/2 cup of Organic/Raw Honey per jar.
Stir your mixture, then pour into your ACV honey jars.

Keep jars in a cool dark place - Preferably in the fridge if you have room.

Shake before use.

Enjoy! A tablespoon a day keeps the Doctor away!
Too spicy? Add a bit of water and/or chase with water to wash it down.

Notes:
*1) It's not necessary to peel the Garlic. If you want to take the time to peel them, you can if you want.
*2) Peeling is not necessary. Just chop or lightly mince.
*3) Peeling is not necessary. WEAR GLOVES or you'll stain your fingers orange!
*4) You will only use about 2 1/2 bottles worth. KEEP YOUR BOTTLES for the finished product!
