Apples Galore!
This week I was faced again with "what do I do with it?",
only this time is wasn't with veggies but FRUIT!
I was given the opportunity to pick some apples from my neighbors tree (Thank you!!!). They're completely organic, on the small side, sweet-ish apples. They kinda remind me of Golden Delicious apples, only they're a little more grainy and taste more "green" for lack of better words. Yum!
So I've decided to do several things with them...
- Dehydrate half the apples (half as plain "chips" and the other half seasoned with cinnamon & sugar).
- Apple Butter made in my slow cooker.
- Apple Scrap Jelly, using the scraps.
- Apple preserves/syrup, for pancakes or french toast.
This would be the first time I've used a dehydrator, so hopefully my "chips" will turn out edible *crossesfingers*

First off, I washed the apples and pulled off all the stems.

Next I used my nifty apple-peeler-corer-slicer (without using the peeler part) to slice my apples into nice little wedges. Make sure to keep the scraps for jelly!

I filled a bowl with water and added the juice of a small lemon. Add the apple slices and let sit for at least 5 minutes. Strain and the place on the drying racks.

Like so...
Now we wait....
6-8 hours later we *should* have nice crispy "chips" to enjoy!
When they're done I'll post more pictures and an update on how they taste.
I would love to hear what YOU would do if you access to so many apples.
